dj Orthopedics Introduces New Design for SpinaLogic Bone Growth Stimulator at the North American Spine Society Meeting

Date

SAN DIEGO, Sep 27, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- dj Orthopedics, Inc., (NYSE:DJO), a global medical device company specializing in rehabilitation and regeneration products for the non-operative orthopedic and spine markets, today unveiled the Company's newest design for its DonJoy® SpinaLogic® bone growth stimulator at the North American Spine Society
(NASS) meeting in Philadelphia.

The new, more ergonomic design is smaller, lighter and has a gently curved oval shape that conforms to the spine's anatomy, making it the most comfortable spine bone growth stimulator ever offered by the Company. The new design incorporates the same patented Combined Magnetic Field (CMF) waveform technology that has established SpinaLogic as the most convenient to use spinal bone growth stimulator on the market, with a daily treatment time of 30 minutes, or about one-quarter of the time required by the fastest of the competitive stimulators. Competitive products utilize older technologies, which require between two and twenty-four hours of treatment each day to stimulate bone healing.

"Our commitment to continuous product innovation was highlighted yesterday after winning the Product Development and Manufacturers Association's 'Outstanding Corporate Innovator Award' for 2005, which honors our long-term success in developing and commercializing profitable new products," said Les Cross, president and CEO of dj Orthopedics. "This year's NASS meeting is the perfect venue to introduce our latest SpinaLogic design, a winning combination of technology and comfort."

Bone Growth Stimulation devices are FDA approved Class III devices, designed to promote the healing of musculoskeletal bone and tissue through electromagnetic field technology. The Company's products utilize patented combined magnetic field technology to deliver a highly specific, low-energy signal. SpinaLogic is a non-invasive device that enhances the healing process when used as an adjunct therapy after primary lumbar spinal fusion surgery for at-risk patients. Patients are considered at-risk when the natural healing process of the bone may be compromised by other health conditions of the patient, such as diabetes, smoking habits, weight, age and the severity and location of the fracture. With the SpinaLogic product, the patient attaches the device to the lumbar injury location where it is designed to provide localized magnetic field treatment to the fusion site. The SpinaLogic device contains a micro-controller that tracks the patient's daily treatment compliance and can be checked by the surgeon during follow-up visits.

dj Orthopedics' new SpinaLogic product, along with its other non-operative spine products, will be exhibited at the Company's booth (#153) at the North American Spine Society meeting in Philadelphia, on September 28-30, 2005.
